Alarming Recording Captures Moment Officers Get Knifed in Surprise Attack
A police sergeant that leaped to the aid of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knifeman has been awarded the King's Commendation for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a blade to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver subsequent to a traffic accident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.
"Officer attacked," the constable stated over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage shared by the agency revealed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood up, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon outstretched.
He ran into the policeman who tripped and dropped to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor although being continually attacked with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a safe opportunity, bringing the confrontation to an finish.
Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Can I get something on my throat here, I got knifed in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell received two lacerations to his throat and further wounds to his arms and body, whereas Sgt Foster experienced knife wounds.
Officials said Sgt Foster employed his hands to control his fellow officer's blood loss prior to medical personnel came.
The new award follows subsequent to the law enforcement team were granted organizational Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the police federation award from the regional union branch in April 2024.
They were also awarded a Area Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The responses of each policeman ultimately saved each other and resulted in no bystanders endured any wounds."
Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, per the department.
