The athlete achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.

The Olympic champion concluded her 800m campaign with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the World Championships recently, excelled in an impressive victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I've barely raced this year so it was probably easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.

"The environment out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive event filled the stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the winners with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The competition also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the sprint double.
