The UK airline to provide complimentary fast onboard wifi via Starlink partnership

Travelers on this carrier can soon access high-speed internet onboard without charge after a major deal with SpaceX's satellite provider.

Complimentary and High-speed Wifi Across the Board

The carrier revealed that this no-cost, “fast and dependable” internet offering via the satellite provider will be offered to customers in economy, premium economy, and first class as of next month.

Expanded Implementation Across Multiple Carriers

The holding company of the airline, International Airlines Group, confirmed it had finalized an agreement with Starlink to provide connectivity coverage across over 500 planes within its operators, which also include the Irish airline, the Spanish carrier, plus Vueling.

Uninterrupted Wifi from Gate through Landing

BA noted that this implementation of the service formed part of a multi-billion pound “transformation” program and would provide smooth connectivity coverage for passengers from boarding through arrival, even when traveling above large bodies of water or isolated areas.

Existing Internet Services

Limited wifi access remains available for BA travelers on the majority of the airline's aircraft using their .air system.

Enrollees in the airline's loyalty club can transmit communications plus text-based correspondence onboard without paying, whereas travelers looking to watch music, video, or content on their travel and are not flying in premium cabins may be charged between four pounds ninety-nine and twenty-one pounds ninety-nine for one internet plan.

The Satellite Infrastructure

The provider operates a system of many thousands of orbiting devices and is run by the billionaire's SpaceX.

Ongoing Upgrades for the Airline

Their management are working to revitalize the airline around following a period of financial constraints, technology issues, strikes, plus staff cuts.

The airline explained that application with smart technology has assisted them to bring their on-time performance at the best levels from over a decade ago.

Financial Outlook

In August, BA announced a jump in earnings for H1 of the year, assisting IAG’s results upward.

International Airlines Group is set to announce the financial performance covering the three months from July to September shortly.

Other Satellite Agreements

British Airways’ announcement follows shortly after telecom operator Virgin Media O2 revealed it was working with SpaceX to boost cellular service across remote areas across the United Kingdom, enabling users to seamlessly connect phones through orbiting devices in the absence of standard network coverage can be found.
